splinters, shards pieces of data. Unbound like free radicals. Created to be something else but became what it was to begin with. All the parts of the mise en place meander.

It takes many parts of something to be considered whole. In this curation by HM we joyfully explore all the parts of the sum.

What are we becoming and by which stimuli are we awakened? What constitutes the parts of us that make us us? And how delicious is this banana caramel Sundae I’m having right now?!

It’s true that AI can churn out exceptional data fuelled imagery within fractions, but will it ever have a soul?

There is no better time to call on the ancient preachings of Japanese philosophy: Wabi Sabi. It teaches us the way into ourselves in that it celebrates our imperfect shivers, our transience, our impermanence – and makes it the most awarded superstar.

Join us for a satellite performance, a reactive immersion to the Cape Town Art Fair’s theme of ‘Unbound’, into a treasure trove of gems that washed ashore.

‘I Never Promised You a Rose Garden’, Cavalli Gallery

he exhibition “I Never Promised You a Rose Garden” takes place during the 2023 spring season as Cavalli Estate.

“I Never Promised You a Rose Garden”, an immersive exhibition that invited artists to explore the intricate relationship between humanity and the natural world.

With the start of spring around the corner, artists were invited to embark on a journey to challenge conventional notions of beauty and confront the complexities hidden beneath the surface of a seemingly perfect rose garden.

Participating artists were encouraged to investigate and confront the romanticized notions of a perfect existence and are invited to delve deeper into the nuanced realities of life. Inspired by the iconic phrase, the exhibition encourages a revaluation of our expectations, aspirations, and the vulnerabilities that shape us.

“To romanticize the world is to make us aware of the magic, mystery and wonder of the world; it is to educate the senses to see the ordinary as extraordinary, the familiar as strange, the mundane as sacred, the finite as infinite” – Novalis
